2008 Catholic Charities Dragon Boat Races come to an end

02Oct
On September 13, 2008 MileOne Automotive suited up to race in the 2008 Dragon Boat Races as a corporate sponsor for the event. Amongst the 33 corporate teams in Baltimore present at the competition, the MileOne team discovered quickly what they were missing as a rookie team. The boat racing competition ended in defeat quickly as the MileOne team battled it out against the many other companies which proved to have more experience under them.Although the races ended in defeat, MileOne found themselves in the finals for the Dragon Boat Hat contest as well as the Team Chant. The marketing department showed true skill in their creativity taking second in the hat and fourth in the chant.

All the funds donated by the sponsors will be used to keep the many Catholic Charities relief services running. The 80 programs offer a diverse array of services in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Frederick, Washington and Garrett Counties of Maryland.  They care for children and families, people who are poor and disadvantaged, seniors, and those who have developmental disabilities to provide help and hope so that every person can realize their full potential.

Overall, the event gave corporations a chance to bond together under one contributing cause. The competition gave larger corporations such as MileOne the chance to interact with co-workers which they had never met.

“Because MileOne is such a large company and has dealerships spread over Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania; it has never enabled us to socialize with co-workers from other locations. That, I believe, is the best part about this event for MileOne, “said the MileOne team captain.

The next Chatholic Charities of Baltimore Dragon Boat Race will take place in 2010.
