Habitat For Humanity 2010

21Sep

Thursday, September 16 from 8:30am – 4:00pm Hall Nissan Western Branch helped the King Family in an unbelievable way….they built them a home for their family!

The King family is one link in a chain of Habitat homebuyer families. When a fellow church member was selected for a Habitat home, the Kings filled out an application, and to their surprise, were selected as a Habitat homebuyer family for 2009. Going forward, the King family hopes to help more people learn about Habitat, “so that more people in our same situation will have the opportunity to take advantage of the blessing that we have been given. Everyone wants the “American Dream” to own a home, but not go broke trying to do it,” said Mr. King.

Thomas King was born and raised in Virginia Beach. He attended Bayside High School and has worked as a construction inspector in public utilities for the City of Norfolk for nine years. His wife, Dottie, is a stay-at-home mom and cares for their five boys. The entire family is very excited about being selected as a Habitat family, saying “it is just a blessing.” They currently rent a house in Virginia Beach, but are looking forward to no longer paying rent, seeing home ownership as an investment in their family and future.

Mrs. King describes her five boys – Bryce, 15; Daryan, 14; Christopher, 9; Clarence, 7; and Ethan, 1 – as handsome boys who love sports and like to hunt. The oldest son is on the football team at Salem High School and enjoys all sports. The other boys too enjoy participating in basketball, wrestling, and soccer.

The Kings are very grateful for the chance to own their own home – “we say thank you, but words really can’t express the gratitude,” said Mr. King. “We feel we would not have had our dream come true without the help of Habitat, and for that, we are grateful. We have gained friends and family through Habitat, and I will not stop helping Habitat once our house is built. I will help others become homeowners too.”

The King family belong to New Beginning Church and their faith is the center of their home. “I try to spend as much time with my family as possible and do things around the house to show my sons that if I can help out at home they can too.”

The King boys helped to build their home and are excited about picking out paint colors for their rooms.

Construction Volunteers arrived by 8:45 AM for sign in and safety orientation. They broke for lunch at 12 noon and resumed building until 3:30 pm.

Safety is the most important concern at Habitat SHR. It is imperative that all volunteers arrived on time to attend the safety briefing and are trained on that day’s task the morning of volunteering.

Hall employees had a great time getting to know the King Family while helping to build their brand new home.

There has been a lot of buzz about the Chevy Cruze in recent months, but General Motors announced yesterday that the highly anticipated compact cars are rolling off the assembly line in Lordstown, Ohio.

“Our new body shop is among the best in the world. Our team is inspired and energized by the build of the Cruze. It’s a safe and reliable compact car with that mid-size experience,” Dave Green, president of UAW Local 1714 at the Lordstown Metal Center said in a press release.

The Lordstown Complex has been in operation since 1966 and according to GM, the plant has produced more than 14 million vehicles. A team of about 4,500 have been building the new Chevy Cruze cars. The vehicles will be in U.S. and Canadian showrooms next week.

The Cruze has a starting price of $16,995. And although it’s a compact, the Cruze is a leader in safety with 10 airbags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover sensing, traction control, antilock brakes and collapsible pedal system. All cars include OnStar with Automatic Crash Response.

“We have been working hard toward this goal for the past two years,” said UAW Local 1112 President Jim Graham. “We have a premium small car that we are proud to build and eager to get into the dealerships.”

All-New 2011 Dodge Durango

08Sep

The All-new 2011 Dodge Durango was revealed at the Dodge Rock ‘N’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon.

Half Marathon Start Line took place at the Virginia Beach COnvention Center on September 5, 2010 at 7:00 am and ended on the oceanfront boardwalk. The Dodge brand team laced up their running shoes to compete in the “Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon presented by SunTrust” in Virginia Beach over the Labor Day weekend. Runners included Ralph Gilles, Dodge Car Brand President and CEO; Steven Zanlunghi, Director of Mid-Atlantic Business Center; Charlie Glymph, Marketing Manager of Mid-Atlantic Business Center and approximately 20,000 marathon runners and walkers. Dodge proudly showed off its all-new 2011 Dodge Durango as Hall Auto captured unseen before photos of the vehicle.

The event brought the formal public debut of the 2011 Dodge Durango. Dodge has debuted the 2011 Durango just after Ford rolled out their insanely popular 2011 Explorer and with both of these new SUVs expected to hit showrooms later this year, we could have an interesting battle setting up between two of the heavy-hitters in the sport utility market.
