A recent article in USA Today compared car owners with their late-night TV show of choice. They teamed up and created a poll with Penn Schoen Berland, market research and consulting firm, to showcase the demographics of viewers and their cars.
According to the results of the poll fans of Conan O’Brien are most likely to be between the ages of 18 and 34 year old and drive Volkswagens. Those who prefer to watch Jay Leno are typically age 45 or older and lean toward domestics, especially Pontiac and Chevrolets.
Change the channel to watch David Letterman and you are likely somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 to 44 years old, and cruising around in a Toyota. Lastly, people who prefer to get their news and entertainment from Jon Stewart fall between the ages of 35-54 and favor GMC trucks.

MileOne Teams up with The American Cancer Society for Another Great Event
On October 24th, MileOne Automotive employees, friends and family in Maryland joined together to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Baltimore. MileOne Automotive is a long-time participant in the event and look forward to this day each fall.
The weather and turn-out were both great for this year’s event. Team members met at our Flagship Sponsor tent in a park at the Harry and Jeannetta Weinberg YMCA Center in Baltimore. Before the walk began, team members enjoyed light refreshments, turned in their last-minute donations and got ready for the event to begin!
Jerry Fader, President of MileOne Automotive, spoke to all walkers at this year’s Making Strides event before the beginning of the walk. He addressed the importance of fundraising and the impact that The American Cancer Society has in all of our lives. After the speech, there was a quick MileOne team photo taken then everyone headed to the start line.
The walk took place on a scenic, 4-mile course throughout the Mayfield neighborhood of Baltimore. Part of the walk included a trip around Lake Montebello. American Cancer Society volunteers, neighbors and even some cheerleaders encouraged walkers along the way. Everyone ended the walk under a huge pink balloon arch, welcoming them back to the event’s main area. Music, snacks and water were on-hand for all participants.
Overall, the event was successful for MileOne and The American Cancer Society, further strengthening the partnership between the two organizations. Throughout the Making Strides season, MileOne employees helped to raise thousands of dollars, as they do each year, to benefit the ACS. This event each year is a great celebration for all participants to recognize strength, volunteerism and community.

There has been a lot of buzz about the Chevy Cruze in recent months, but General Motors announced yesterday that the highly anticipated compact cars are rolling off the assembly line in Lordstown, Ohio.
“Our new body shop is among the best in the world. Our team is inspired and energized by the build of the Cruze. It’s a safe and reliable compact car with that mid-size experience,” Dave Green, president of UAW Local 1714 at the Lordstown Metal Center said in a press release.
The Lordstown Complex has been in operation since 1966 and according to GM, the plant has produced more than 14 million vehicles. A team of about 4,500 have been building the new Chevy Cruze cars. The vehicles will be in U.S. and Canadian showrooms next week.
The Cruze has a starting price of $16,995. And although it’s a compact, the Cruze is a leader in safety with 10 airbags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover sensing, traction control, antilock brakes and collapsible pedal system. All cars include OnStar with Automatic Crash Response.
“We have been working hard toward this goal for the past two years,” said UAW Local 1112 President Jim Graham. “We have a premium small car that we are proud to build and eager to get into the dealerships.”

50 years ago, US insurers organized the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit, scientific, and educational organization dedicated to reducing the losses — deaths, injuries, and property damage — from crashes on the nation’s highways
Over these 50 years car crashworthiness has improved. Demonstrating this improvement a crash test was conducted between a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. In a real-world collision similar to this test, occupants of the new model would fare much better than in the vintage Chevy.
“It was night and day, the difference in occupant protection,” says Institute president Adrian Lund. “What this test shows is that automakers don’t build cars like they used to. They build them better.”
The crash test was conducted at an event to celebrate the contributions of auto insurers to highway safety progress over 50 years. Beginning with the Institute’s 1959 founding, insurers have maintained the resolve, articulated in the 1950s, to “conduct, sponsor, and encourage programs designed to aid in the conservation and preservation of life and property from the hazards of highway accidents.”

This year, the Toyota Prius celebrates a decade of sales in North America. The Prius remains the best selling hybrid in both the U.S. and around the world. Since its Japanese market introduction back in 1997, drivers have purchased more than 1.8 million of the gas-electric vehicles, with approximately half of those ending up in the United States. The first-generation Prius was an awkward looking four-door sedan that was slow and often didn’t meet up with customer’s fuel economy expectations. It wasn’t until the second-generation model arrived in 2004 with a new tear-drop shaped hatchback body style that the Prius really took off. By 2007, sales topped half a million, with the third-generation model arriving two years later offering even more improved efficiency and better dynamic performance. This year, Toyota has begun to set up a test-fleet of plug-in Priuses with lithium ion batteries with full series production of those versions planed for 2012.
