Built from the ground up, The Panamera was designed to be a pure, unadulterated sports car. The Panamera S achieves 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, the Panamera 4S reaches 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and the Panamera Turbo reaches 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. Aside from pure power, the Panamera is the height of sports car technology. Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) provides more power with less fuel. Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gives lightening fast, smooth shifts. And new Auto Start Stop saves fuel by turning off the engine when idle.

Its looks haven’t changed much over forty years, but it’s the subtle improvements that make each new 911 so great. And if you still haven’t driven one after all this time, you’re probably one of those misguided souls who think the horizontally opposed, shoved-up-the-wazoo engine makes the 911 nothing more than an overhyped, overpriced VW Beetle derivative.

One hundred and ninety-three grand. That’s what a 530-hp Porsche 911 GT2 costs. Even if you were born on top of a pile of diamond-encrusted Krugerrands and wore solid-gold booties to your baptism, this is not an insignificant amount of money. Many things can be bought for less cash. Things like college degrees. And houses. Heck, if you’re south of the border and feeling saucy, you could probably even snag yourself a whole freakin’ Mexican village.

We love manual transmissions in this office, so it’s tough to admit that there is one of the vehicles in the fleet this week that would be better off with an automatic: the Porsche Cayenne GTS. Yes, you heard that correctly, this is a Porsche that is better with an automatic tranny. The Cayenne’s gearbox is imprecise, and it makes the whole driving experience cumbersome. It’s great that Porsche now offers a manual gearbox with the V-8 engine, but we’d recommend the six-speed automatic if you’re looking for a thirsty, heavy, yet still quite nimble SUV. Plus, the slightly tweaked V-8 in the GTS does sound very nice.
